Honoring Clint Warren

Life has a funny way of introducing you to a perfect stranger, forming that into a strong bond, and then ripping it away from you at the blink of an eye.

Last night, I learned of the passing of my friend Clint Warren a month ago to this day. Still beside myself of the news, I’m pressing publish in honor of his spirit.

The hardest part of this was not knowing of Clint’s passing until a month after it happened. I feel a deep disrespect for not honoring his passing when it happened. But what could I do? This is the new world we live in. A world where you make connections via tweets, hangouts, and e-mails. There is no alert when a tragedy like this happens. We just deal with it. It’s cruel, isn’t it?

I had the pleasure of knowing Clint over the last year and a half through our private mastermind group, the WordPress community, and as a guest here on the show.

We shared many private conversations about success and the hard work it takes to achieve it. He reminded me about how to stay in the moment — something we both struggled with. Making sure that if I truly wanted to reach my goals, I needed to be present and live within each step. Wether it was a business goal or a fitness goal, Clint was the symbol at the top of my proverbial mountain.

I will be forever grateful for you, big guy. I hope you’re still rocking the v-neck, wherever you are.

Rest in peace.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and Clint’s words in the audio message. I met him only for a brief time at WordCamp NYC 2014 but enjoyed the lessons he shared in the Matt Report interview and ProCast.

    1. Thanks, Lisa.

  2. Matt, first allow me to offer my condolences on the passing of your friend! I know the pain associated with such an event! While I’m a nobody in the WordPress community, I appreciate how you brought honor to your friend! This is a major example of what truly makes the WordPress Community great and why I enjoy delivering quality sites with the best CMS available!

I’m a huge fan of the work you do and your podcast and I appreciate the information that you bring forth to those of us who are attempting to make our living using WordPress!

Keep up the great work Matt and may your friend always hold a special place in your heart!

    Respectfully,

    Greg Hyatt

    1. Thanks for listening and for your kind words, Greg.

As cliché as it sounds, everyone is somebody and Clint would have helped you find who that somebody was. I hope you find success in our space and achieve what you’re after. Take care.

  3. Thanks for sharing this Matt. I had the pleasure of knowing Clint since 2011. I share your sentiments and I am also having a tough time with his passing. I have taken everything I learned from him and used my grief to build a new company based on his teaching. Everyone remotely close to him is devastated. Marc

  4. Great tribute, Matt. I feel much the same as you. I thought of Clint this morning during my workout. I loved the way he could motivate people; he always added such value to conversations. Rest in peace, Clint.

  5. Matt, thanks for putting this together. I first heard Clint on your show. I immediately started following him and reading his stuff. I even started daily reflections (morning and evening, not every day though) because he did. I didn’t know him personally, but that’s the thing about Clint, it seems: I didn’t have to. Thanks again.

  6. Many thanks Matt, that was so much larger than a business podcast. Keep it up! To me it´s much more interesting to learn what truly drives people than what tools they use.

Hi Matt, I finally listened to this today. I kept passing over it thinking maybe it was an old podcast showing out of order ….I was like wait, I just listened to a Matt Report episode not too long ago where Clint was the guest. First, congrats to you for your candor and heartfelt words. I especially enjoyed the final part of Clint talking about the shooting he was involved in. Someone said supernova on the funeral home page and that seems to fit, I don’t know why he is no longer with us but your tribute seems fitting nonetheless. Thank you for recording it.

    1. Thanks for listening to the episode, Ginger. He will be missed for sure.

I think of Clint often. He was a powerhouse. His passing leaves a big hole for everyone who knew him.

    1. I couldn’t agree more, Richard.

  9. Thank you for sharing this Matt. Clint was a true friend. He had incredible energy and vision. His passing caught all of us by surprise. Clint always considered me a mentor. The truth is, he was a mentor to us all.

    Thanks,
    Alex Miranda
